THE MUSIC ACADEMY LEAVES THE BUILDING

Music Academy students and staff will be leaving our brick and mortar building to provide free music education and performance opportunities to the community in a project called “Music Academy Leaves the Building.

The Music Academy offers a wide range of music education programming at our location in Haight Village, but with this project we will reach more of the community with engaging and effective music education by holding pop-up locations around the region.

The first stop is March 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Discovery Center where students and faculty will present violin demonstrations and host a string instrument petting zoo. Participants will learn about the violin before getting to try one.

March 4, 2 p.m., at Peterson Meadows, Mike Beert, Music Academy Cello Faculty, presents a program on the beginnings of Rock and Roll.

  • March 5, Music Academy String Faculty will provide guidance to string sectionals during orchestra class at Marshall Middle School.

  • March 6, at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., Music Academy Faculty will provide a violin demonstration at RockHouse Kids. Participants will learn about the violin before trying one and each child will receive a copy of the book, Victor Discovers the Violin.

  • March 8, at 8:10 a.m., Music Academy String Faculty will provide string sectionals during orchestra class at Auburn High School.

  • March 13, 10-11 a.m., a Prelude Class for young children will be held at the Discovery Center. It is part of a collaboration with RPS 205.

  • March 16, at 10 a.m., residents of Luther Center will be treated to a group class recital.

  • March 18, Music Academy String Faculty will provide string sectionals during orchestra class at West Middle School.

The program will conclude April 1, when Music Academy Faculty will present a family-friendly concert at 11 a.m. at the Nordlof Center Black Box Theater. Attendees will experience a variety of instruments and genres in an interactive setting.

The project is funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
